Alyssa and Matthew shared a little bit about themselves during the recognition ceremony that was held at the High School.

Alyssa shared the following:

I am a senior at Mead High School and have attended all four years. As long as I have been a student here I have loved the supportive environment created by my peers as well as my teachers. I am involved in many extracurriculars such as NHS, link leaders, the women’s soccer team, and the marching band where I have been section leader for two years and am currently positioned as one of the three drum majors. Two of the most influential teachers I have had are, Mrs. Helmus as well as Mr. Lemons. Both have supported me since my freshman year and have helped me grow into a better scholar, musician, and person and I cannot thank them enough. I plan to attend Front Range Community College after high school, then transfer to a four-year college to double major in sociology and psychology. I hope to pursue the career of a juvenile parole officer!”

Matthew shared the following:

As a Maverick, I have been involved with many activities like being a section leader of the trumpets in The Mead High School Marching Band and being an active member of The Mead High School Sources of Strength. In terms of being involved with the community, I’ve put forth a lot of community service. Over the course of the past few summers, I have volunteered at the local library to help little kids learn how to read. One of the many things that I like about Mead High School is how inclusive everyone is. This is especially important to me because when I was younger, I was excluded from a lot of stuff like friendships and clubs because I was autistic and different and people almost never accepted me for who I was. But when I came into Mead and met all these different people and joined different activities, I was shocked by how inclusive and kind everyone was. I felt like I wasn’t an outcast anymore, I felt like I finally belonged.

One of the most influential teachers to me is Mrs. Bradt because she has been a resource for me and has been there for me since my first ever day of High school. She also taught me how to help others who were just like me and to help them feel like they belonged and to help them feel included. After High school, I plan to attend Front Range Community College for 2 years to get my basic education out of the way. This will give me enough time to search for a college in which I can get a Major in Animation. My overall goal is to become an animator for either Video Games or Movie Production. To close out, I want to thank everyone who has helped me get to the point where I’m at right now. This includes all my teachers, friends, and family. Thank you all for your support, help, and for helping me become a better person each and every day.”
